Re: New Baby Leopard Gecko Girl Named Jack

Welcome!
In order to help we need more info. How long have you had the gecko? What kind of setup do you have her in? What temps? size tank? substrate? cage furniture? And what kind of diet do you have her on?

Re: New Baby Leopard Gecko Girl Named Jack

Welcome to HC! Young leopard geckos are notorious for the screech. It's a defensive behavior to startle you. In the wild, that startling affect would give them time to run away.

Taming them is just a matter of placing your hand in the enclosure and letting it sit there for a bit. Some leopard geckos are curious and will investigate it, and others will seek shelter. In either case, your scent is being left behind.

Doing this regularly will help teach the leopard gecko that you are not intent on eating him. (Which is what it appears we are going to do.)

When you go to pick the leo up, don't come from above. Place your hand in front of the little guy and use the other to scoot him on. You can do this in the tank and never lift your hand out. This will let him see you have no ill intensions. It's just a matter of getting him to trust and realize you are not a predator.

Regular interactions with the leo will cause this to subside on its own. If you are not worried about taking a nip (its painless) start placing a finger in front of his face. You may get bit, but after several times of doing this, it will turn to just licks.
