New to Water Dragons

I just received a water dragon from a student who did not want it anymore. I know very little about them. My water dragon won't eat or move about lately. I have had him about 6 months. Once the ac came on at school and it got cooler in my room, I had to adjust his cage with extra lights. Now he seems to "hide' under the plants and covers up his heat rock. Is it too warm? Any advise would be great.

Re: New to Water Dragons

Hi, congrats on the water dragon, they are awesome. One thing I noticed about your post is the word heat rock. Many people here including myself are very anti heat rock. They can cause severe burns on your water dragon, and some have been knowen to start fires. I have seen a few reptiles with 2nd and 3rd degree burns from them. As far as water dragons go check out Tricia's Chinese Water Dragon, Reptile and Amphibian Care Page (Water Dragon care, Reptile care, Amphibian care) by far the best page I have found on their care. As far as his temps go, any cheap digital thermometer with a probe will help you determine his temps better. I use the accurite indoor outdoor thermometer from walmart. I love it because it does the probe temp, ambiant temp, and humidity, and its only $12.00(and if your water dragon trashes it like mine does, their cheap!).
As far as the not eating goes, we would need temps, humidity, cage size, water dragon size and est. age, what you have been offering him for food , what your using for uvb light, ect. to better understand what may be causeing it. The best thing you could really do is get him into a reptile vet in your area and have him checked out. Be sure to write down info i mentioned above, the vet may need that too.

Welcome to Herp Center. I agree that more info is needed to determine the answers to your question. A few pics of the setup would help as well.
