Stormy2620

Hi everyone, I'm a new member . I have two baby Painted turtles that will be one year old this June. I was thinking about building and outside pool for them in my yard. Does anyone have that? I live in RI. I might make it a year round home for them. I'm still not sure about that. I do enjoy having them in the house, they are the talk of the night when ever I have company over for dinner. Does anyone have any thoughts about an outside pool?

Welcome to HC. I'm not a turtle owner either(although I'm a fan) but I would think one of those prefab pond liners would work nicely.

Re: Stormy2620

Welcome to HC neighbor. (I live in Fall River, MA.) A simple pond using a pond liner would be fine for spring and summer. You are going to want to use some sort of filtration system and it would be a good idea to have some fish in the pond to eat any mosquito larvae that gets deposited. Small goldfish or guppies would work. They would also make for an added treat if the turtles can catch them.

I don't keep turtles, so I was just tossing out ideas.

Re: Stormy2620

welcome to HC! glad you joined. i don't keep turtles either but if you are thinking of a pond outside and want them to stick around you may think about having a fence of some sort around the pond.

hopefully Matt will stop by this thread. he seems to be pretty good when it comes to turtles.

you can also check around the Turtle forums and see if there is anything there that will help out as well.
