Greetings from a Sunny S.A.

Hello all, what a marvelous site! I've learned so much already. I'm a tortoise fan and have cape angulates and a leopard tortoise. The big girl was adopted from a petting zoo because she had/has RNS. She is now on her fourth course of antibiotics to clear it. I'm administering the Baytril injections myself now and the treatment appears to be working. She was treated with Doxybiotic powder and Baytril in her drinking water. The injections have worked best though.

I've found injecting towards late afternoon works well. If this is not advisable please let me know...... I inject her (front legs, the Baytril is diluted with a saline solution) and then cover her with newspaper and she settles down very quickly. The previous injections were done at midday, after she'd had a chance to eat, and I then left her outside. Not a pleasant site, at all. Baytril is VERY painful and apparently causes hallucinations, so keeping tort in the dark after treatment may help..... don't know how scientific that is, but it works for my girl.

Look forward to hearing from you. Samantha

Re: Greetings from a Sunny S.A.

Welcome to HC I have no experience with runny nose syndrome, so your treatment methods seem fine from what I can tell. Like you said, it seems to be working. I know Baytril is often used to treat it. I've heard worm infestations can cause symptoms similar to RNS, but if the Baytril seems to be helping, I don't think it would do anything if she had worms. I assume you're keeping it warmer and drier than usual while she undergoes treatment? I hope she regains her health soon Post some pics of your torts sometime. I'd love to see the angulates.
