New Member, But I've Been Around the Block

Greetings! I'm not new to herp forums, but just happened across this one and it looks like a good place to hang out.

I'm a full-time certified veterinary technician that has been practicing in Florida since 1983. I'm married and the mother of two, a daughter age 10 and a son age 8. In my spare time, I breed corn snakes and am starting to branch out into king snakes. My husband and I used to keep and breed veiled chameleons, but once our daughter started to take up a great deal of our time, they were all sold. I"m down to only one red-tailed boa, but had 8 at one point and even bred several one year. Watching snakes have live birth was quite a change from all the eggs I'm used to. Since I started keeping herps in 1995, I had the pleasure of keeping a green iguana and 2 ball pythons that came in through a wildlife rehab I used to work at. Once they became happy and healthy again, I found them good homes. All the other wild critters that have been in my care have been released back into the wild. Well, not all. The 2 starlings I raised from babies I kept as they are a non-native pest species. They turned out to be quite intelligent birds and even learned to say a few words.

OK...I'm starting to ramble, which I can sometimes do, so I'll stop now and continue to check out this forum and all it has to offer. I hope to be a good contributing member and can not only learn from others, but teach as well.

Re: New Member, But I've Been Around the Block

Welcome! I'm glad you came on board. I may be picking your brain more than you care. I also am a working Mom. I have 3 children: 16, 11 and 8. I am also in Forida. I only have the one Red tail Boa, Roxy, who I adopted about 2-3 months ago. She's a big girl, 7 1/2 ft approximately. I do have some experience but that was many moons ago. I also have a 50 lb. dog running around, 2 cats and a hamster. Yes, my house IS the food chain. You will enjoy this site.
