Re: Hello from Costa Rica!

thanks! Ive been fortunate enough to get into a program where we do lots of field trips, and my camara is in my bag usually before anything else, lol, so I will try to share lots of pics. Plus, Ive been talking to an administrator at a new national park that was made here, and it looks like he needs people to create a herp list of all the stuff in the park. Its a lot of work and will take years, but Im definately on board... Im hoping to catch a pic of the nearly extinct Bufo periglenes....(Sapo Dorado) but even if I dont, with the stuff I saw on my mini trip im more than happy....!

Re: Hello from Costa Rica!

It looks like a bailisk of some sorts. I may be wrong though.

Re: Hello from Costa Rica!

welcome. You have 2 cute little frogs in there. However I have no idea what they are. I'm not up to date on my Costa Rican frogs.

I know I know, how dare I call myself the frog lady

Re: Hello from Costa Rica!

Hi, Lisa, and welcome! Lucky you to be in Costa Rica and interested in herps (well, lucky being in CR at all -- what a gorgeous place)! My family and I went to CR for vacation last year, and we just loved it. And somewhere around here I have a great book on CR herps to recommend to you... Can't find the book, but I bought it on Amazon:
Amazon.com: The Amphibians and Reptiles of Costa Rica: A Herpetofauna between Two Continents, between Two Seas: Jay M. Savage: Books

You can see some of my CR herp pics in my images...

Re: Hello from Costa Rica!

hi there and welcome. Hopefully myself and others can help you identify some of the herps you find. i had a look at some of your pics....just a few observations.

For correct identification it is very important that you get a clear picture...none of your pics have the subject in focus. This is vital for correct identification especially for the amphibians and Norops of costa rica that you have posted. Another thing is you never gave the locality which is an important factor in identification. Where are these pics from? I know you spoke of Playa Hermosa but not sure if this is your locality?

Just some constructive criticism…especially if you would like to major in herpetology. Costa Rica is an awesome place for herpetologists and herpers…you are going to have really good times herping. Good luck on Bufo periglenes haha….the last one was seen in 1989…would be awesome if you found more!!!! A dream come true I bet. And again welcome…and post more pics!!! Iwas herping costa rica last year and also kept the little gold creatures in the back of my mind
