Hi, My Name is Denys
I found this community searching for information on Iguana's and Fire Skinks. Those are the the two lizards I have.
I would like to take better care of them. I've never had a Fire Skink before it was a recent gift and I put him together with the Iguanas. So far the Iguanas leave him alone but I'm afraid that maybe they won't get along. Can someone tell if having a skink live together with iguanas a good or bad idea (maybe I'm just paranoid)? I'd appreciate any help that may come my way, thank you. |

Re: Hi, My Name is Denys
Welcome to Herp Center.
Having them together is a very bad idea. You need to separate them all as soon as possible. Iguanas and Skinks have different care requirements. You need to make sure that you have a proper set up for each one. What is the set up you have them all in now? Also, iguanas are aggressive even to each other. You're likely to end up with a dead skink pretty soon. They will either stress the skink out until the skink stops eating, or more likely, start fighting with him and/or each other. Your best option is to get a separate enclosure for each iguana and skink. It's best to keep them all separated at all times.

Re: Hi, My Name is Denys
Another concern is the diet. Fire Skinks are insectivores and iguanas are herbivores. If the iguana decides to eat the Skinks insects, the animal protein can lead to kidney and liver failure. They don't belong together and I too suggest they be separated immediately.

Welcome to Herp Center....I hope you like it here...I also agree with separating the two....they will be too different in size to be compatible...and the diet differences and all...best wishes and let us know if you have questions....
