Welcome, im looking into zoology, or I guess I should say im looking for a school that offers zoology as a major that would accept me, i was never the best student in high school. What were you doing in the zoo, Zoo keeper, Zooligist, animal behavioralist, volunteer, zoo experience is a rather broad term. just curious.

And do they ever get "time outs" away from the public eye?
No, they were no more aggressive than any other snakes of their kind from what I've seen. Elvira would get edgy if you tried to unwind her to from her branch (but what snake doesn't). Technically they get time outs from the public eye every day from closing 5pm to opening the next day at 10am. But unlike larger zoos we were unable to "rotate" our animals so they get days off. We just don't have the space for extra holding areas behind the scenes in order to hold extra animals for rotation. (except come to think of it, we did rotate our salamanders on and off exhibit, but they don't take up much room, do they?

When I was working as a volunteer, I would help out a different keeper each day and there was usually one or two keepers for each area of the zoo (domestics, elephants, aquatics, n. america west, and n. america east) here is the link to the zoo where I worked to give you a better idea of what animals I was working with: Buttonwood Park Zoo, New Bedford, Massachusetts ~ Home Page
As a volunteer, I was trusted with most of the same tasks that the keepers had like cleaning, food prep, enrichment (which is anything that enriches the lives of the animals), log keeping.

When I was hired as a temp keeper, I worked mainly in aquatics with the harbor seals, reptiles, fish, shorebirds, and amphibians. I got to take part in the seals' training and help out with medical procedures and a lot of really cool stuff. Towards the end, tey also trained me to work all by myself in NAE which includes black bears, coyotes, bald eagles, otters, beavers, and the turkey buzzard.

Right now I am an Animal Science major at UVM but most zoos are looking for a bio animal science zoology or related majors.
I suggest checking out the aza.com website as they hve job listings at zoos and aquariums across the country!
