New to the Snake Thing
Hi there...
I am new to snakes...and any advice would be wonderful! I have a Rosy Boa and he is almost full grown. In a 10 gallon right now and will be in a 30 gallon as soon as I get a screen for it. He is in a sand substrate and a poptart box for his hide out. Also a heat lamp, but no heating pads yet. I will also get that soon...maybe saterday. He eats frozen/thawed mice once every 10 days. He just ate last night and also drank...so I assume to take the water bowl away? Anyway, the one question that I do have is when can I handle him after feeding? How are there temperment? He bit me this afternoon and I am just assuming I handled him too early after feeding? Please tell me... ![]() Here is his pic... ![]() ![]() |

Re: New to the Snake Thing
Hi and welcome to the HCN! Your boa is beautiful. You should wait to handle your boa until 3 days after hes eaten. Here is a care sheet you should check out

Re: New to the Snake Thing
Welcome to HC, for a heat pad, just buy a human heat pad from Walmart, much cheaper than the Under Tank Heater's they sell at petstores. As far as water, he needs to have a bowl of fresh water at all times. And hello neighbor, I'm in Virginia Beach !!!!!!!

Re: New to the Snake Thing
Welcome to HerpCenter!
Nice looking little boa! I give my snakes 2 days after feeding before handling. The wait after feedings is less about being bitten and more about avoiding the snake's regurgitating the food! YUCK!

Re: New to the Snake Thing
Welcome to HC! And yep, what they said
2 days after feeding to handle and leave the bowl of fresh, clean water in at all times. He's a real beauty!edit: Oh yes, as Merlin indicated, regurgitations are disgusting... I experienced a couple with my snakes, and they're definitely best avoided! ![]()
