Re: Lack of Urates on Iguana Feces
I don't know anything at all about iguanas, but there are plenty of people here who do. Hopefully they'll come along soon. I just want to say, welcome to HC!

Re: Lack of Urates on Iguana Feces
Not sure about the answer to your question but wanted to say welcome!
I am gonna guess and say that those that do keep the igs and are more likely to be able to answer your question will want more info. What is the diet? what are the habitat setup? ect...

Re: Lack of Urates on Iguana Feces
Welcome to HerpCenter!
Exactly what are you feeding, how big is the iguana and give deails of the enclosure, temperature, lighting, substrate, etc. The urates turning orange is a sign of dehydration and could be a sympton of kidney failure. This coud be very serious. You need to have a vet examine it for possible renal failure as soon as possible!

Re: Lack of Urates on Iguana Feces
I would have to agree with Merlin on that one. That is a huge sign of kidney failure. What are your setups like and how old is this iguana? Is it still active or lethargic? Does its limbs appear to be swollen? Have you witnessed any seizures? Do You have a uvb light,, if so what kind and how far away is it from the iguana? And last but not least to all my questions,, what are you feeding it?

Re: Lack of Urates on Iguana Feces
Hi! Thanks for the help!
I`ve try to answer for all your questions... Sorry for my english... Probably is not very good... eheheSo, I`m gonna start to tell the food that I give to my ig. I give to my ig Cabbage, pumpkin, green beans, courgettes, apple, banana, rúcola, sweet potato, mustard green, sheets of rose... And I put vitamins in dust mixture to the food... My cage has a land substract that I bought in the animal shop to help the environment keep the humidity... The behavior of my iguana is normal... She eats like usual, runaway when someone goes near of her... Everything normal unless the feces and the absence of urates... Today I`ve realised that the feces were becoming brown and were a little of urates... I thought that was parasites but if was the kidney I`m concerned... :S In the area where I live the vets don`T know nothing about iguanas... I`ve talked to 3 of them and they said that don`t know... :SThanks for Help... How I can revert the situation if the problem was kidney? One more time, thanks |

Re: Lack of Urates on Iguana Feces
I forgot... I have UVB and UVA light, but I bought that lamps one year ago... Today I`m gonna buy a new one! The distance the lamp to my iguana was near... like 10-15 centimeters or even less, because I have a stick of wood in the cage, and she loves be over that... My iguana has near 80 centimeters... In my house I have the iguana since a year ago, but she must be 2-3 years...
Thanks ![]() |

Re: Lack of Urates on Iguana Feces
Don't be too concerned with your English. you are doing just fine and we understand.
You really need to change the diet. 75-80% should be dark leafy greens, Collard greens, mustard greens and turnip greens. Including the rucola is fine The rest should be vegetables with a touch of fruit for a treat. The pumpkin and sweet potato are good vegetables as well as the green beans. You should not give cabbage, bananas or apples on a regular basis. I am not sure what sheets of rose are. As for the substrate. You should not have anything particulate in the iguanas cage. They will end up eating it and may cause an impaction. Most use either tiles or sheets of newspaper.

Re: Lack of Urates on Iguana Feces
Do you have uvb lights?? Merlin pointed you in the right direction as far as diet. And as far as the substrate get rid of that stuff and use tile or something like that.
