Re: Hello. I've Just Started with Japalura Splend
Well, I'm "herp-less" now. My Japalura Splendida died last night. I haven't had him for long and the pet store that I purchased him from is issuing me a credit for the loss. So, I don't want to give up on herps but I do want to clean the enclosure and start fresh with something else. I'm using a 29-gallon tank with a lockable screen top. Obviously, I don't want to purchase another reptile without researching it first and allowing me the chance to set up the terrarium in advance. I don't have a preference as to what I raise but I would like something that won't outgrow my set up. Any suggestions, recommendations or comments appreciated.

Re: Hello. I've Just Started with Japalura Splend
I'm sorry to hear about your japalura. If it is any comfort to you most of them are wild caught and they are fairly new on theherp scene so there is still a lot that needs to be figured out about them.
What type of animal are youloking for other than something to fit the tank? Lizard, snake, frog? Insect eater or vegetarian Try and narrow down the range of what interests you. For starters with a 29 gal tank you could go with a leopard gecko or a cornsnake.

Re: Hello. I've Just Started with Japalura Splend
Before the japalura I was leaning toward a gecko but a snake would be interesting. I've heard that the cornsnake and ball python are good choices.

Re: Hello. I've Just Started with Japalura Splend
Corns are great snakes. Easy to handle and keep, docile, and easy feeders.
Ball pythons are great too (I have both) but their feeding quirks can drive a new keeper crazy!

Re: Hello. I've Just Started with Japalura Splend
Obviously, with any animal, there are a lot of opinions and recommendations as to their overall care. As an owner of corn snakes what are your most important observations or guideliness? I've found several internet sellers of corn snakes and would consider going that route when purchasing one.
