Re: New to this and need help!

Hey Karmakik, welcome to the HCN! We are glad youve joined us! IS there anyway you can post a pic of the injury? Youre gonna want to clean it with some betadine and put some neosporin on it to help prevent infection and if you can keep it wrapped up with some gauze that would be wonderful. I suggest you taking him to the vet, chances are good that if its hanging on by just a thread they will remove it. Can you tell us a little bit about his enclosure? Temps, humidity? What are you using for substrate? How big is he?WHat type of lighting do you have for him?

Heh. No kidding.

Many reptiles can lose a toe or a tail and not have a problem. I also think you should get him to a vet and get him checked out. But I think afterwards, he'll be fine.

What concerns me is how he got the injury in the first place. What happened? Was it something that can be prevented in the future?

This one worries me very much. Chinese Water Dragons are not social creatures. If they are both male you WILL have to separate them. They will develop dominating behaviors and it will get to the point where one will stop eating. They will compete for space.

Have you done research as to what size enclosure they will need once they reach adult size? Because if you have two males, you will need two enclosures of that size, which by the way, is 2 x 4 x 6 FEET. Or you could build one twice as big and if they start fighting, put a separator in it.

Please read our caresheet. if you are not able to take care of them like they will need caring for when they reach adult size, I would suggest you see if the petstore will take one back.

Here is our caresheet. Please read it carefully. Usually any information given by a petstore is inadiquate for proper care.
