Hello
Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to reptiles of any kind. I'm a K/1 teacher who said yes to accepting a snake in her classroom. My class is the proud new owner of a 6-7 foot boa. We've been told he/she is a Red-Tail. The class named him Mustache since there is a black line of the mouth but they will change the name if we learn he is a she! I'm reading and researching as much as I can to find out how best to care for him. Another teacher in the building in knowledgeable and very helpful. Right now I'm trying to figure out the best hide. He came with a rock cave that isn't really big enough for him. He was literally tied in knots under it and lifting it up with his body. Any suggestions?

Re: Hello
Welcome to HC! I currently use a massive piece of driftwood as a hide.(There are openings that allowed me to insert artificial plants.) I will try to grab a shot of it later on and post it.

Re: Hello
Mine's not that big yet...:-) She's still small enough to fit in the largest crock sold in pet stores with plenty of room...:-) She loves laying in the water.

Re: Hello
Hi and welcome to HC. I too use cardboard boxes. Large hides for bigger snakes are pretty expensive.

Re: Hello
You can buy an opaque plastic tub and turn it upside down and put a hole in it as a hide, if you want it to look more natural you can cover it with silicone and stick bed-a-beast (coconut fiber) to it.
Tell us about Mustaches current enclosure.
