hi new here.. gr. iguana owner needs help

hi all,

i am so glad to have found this site. i am having a big problem with my 14 year old green iguana..over the past few months she has been experienceing a hardening of her tail 3-4 inched from the base and down. the tip of her tail never wamrs up and is staying ice cold.

i have all the appropriate lighting on her and she is fed only the best and proper diet for green iguanas. i have been giving her warm baths and massaging the tail but nothing seems to be working. this is not exhibiting any signs of Metabolic Bone Disease that I can tell or from what I have read. when she was very small her tail popped off and it seems like the spot where it had broken off from is the hardest part of her tail right now.

i am very sad and I would be devastated if I lost her. i have researched this to every limit but I have not come across anything like the issue she is having. if anyone knows about this and could give me any help I would really appreciate it.

thanks
gabrielle

Welcome to HerpCenter. Have you had the tail looked at by a vet?
I really don't see anything in the pictures. I do know that when an iguana loses its tail it grows back different than the original, often gray colored and clublike.
Only a vet is going to be able to tell you what is going on for sure.

hi, when you say "proper" we always want to know actual temps and lighting. Your ig looks great, BUT sometimes a simple adjustment can make a worlds difference.

That's a fancy looking meal there, the way its put together looks like something from an upscale restaurant.
What is it, carrots, cauliflower and spinach(?)

I would really recommend seeing a vet because none of us are there, we can't handle the tail and give you an opinion.
Herp Vet Connection or ARAV will help you find a vet.

See the vet and get an opinion. Our vet has been very important in our lives lately with our rescue iguana. Freya's favorite "good girl" treat is pineapple. Good luck!
