Hello, we are new to the forum and have some questions about our bearded dragon. He is about a year old and suddenly gets irritated when my son trys to interact with him. His beard becomes black and the belly becomes flat. Seems to be a common trait they may have, but what brings it on?

Re: Izzy

Welcome! HOw old is your sone? Its possible that your son may be doing something to annoy the dragon.
Then again it may just be the dragon.

Re: Izzy

also, when something comes at the Dragon from above they tend to feel it is a predator. So they go on the defense.

Re: Izzy

My dragon does that to my boyfriend, he just doesn't seem to like him. He can handle him if I hand him to him, but he can't pick him up.

Re: Izzy

My daughters Bearded Dragon would always do that to me. He just wasn't "happy" unless he was with her. Mine was a more person friendly personality and was happy as long as he was being held.

Re: Izzy

Welcome to Herp Center! We have a male that was a quite aggressive and would try to bite. He out grew this and is now a sweet heart. I think he was going through those terrible teens. Be patient and keep trying, like someone said don't go at him from above. Wear gloves if you need to, but once you pick him up gently pet him and talk to him, he could just be scared.
