If the wound looks bad, you can raise the temps in the terrarium to help with the healing, but if it's already scabbed up, you probably don't need to do anything special. Just make sure he's got the correct temps and fresh water at all times.

To pre-kill a mouse: If you can do it, put the mouse in a bag and whack it hard against the edge of a table or counter top. Then move it around in front of the snake with a pair of tongs. Or you can put the mouse into a small styrofoam box with some dry ice. That will quickly suffocate it. Then just heat it up again with a hairdryer before feeding and move it around in front of the snake with tongs
I find it easier (and CHEAPER) to keep frozen rats, thaw them in a pan of warm water and heat them up before feeding.

Good luck with your python!

what is a good way to warm it up? and how long does it take to thaw out? thanks for the advice

Re: hello from colorado

welcome to HC! glad you joined. i don't have pythons but I started out feeding my snakes prekilled or stunned prey since they were babies. i wasn't sure about feeding them frozen at first but after awhile, buying the mice every week was getting too expensive so it was easier for me to buy a bunch frozen, store them in a freezer and feed when I needed. they switched over to frozen/thawed no problem. just make sure that the mouse is completely thawed out and there are no cold spots. good luck!

Re: hello from colorado

Hello. I have 15 different snakes including 2 ball bpythons, 3 red tail boas, 3 womas, 4 various kings, and 3 rosy boas. They all eat dead. I even had a wild caught king several years back that ate fresh killed the second day I had her. Feeding live is purely for your enjoyment.

I am glad to hear that you at least make sure you python kills the mouse. If you do choose to feed live that is the most responsible way.

But feeding frozen thawed is the best way in my opinion. I can put a properly FT mouse or rat in any of my cages and walk away knowing that nothing bad is going to happen to the snake. Most of mine will take the rodent no matter where it is in the cage, a few I have to hold the rodent with tongs
and tease the snake a bit.
