hello from Bo (me) and Iggy'o (guess)
hi. i am new here. i came here initially just to see some ideas for the enclosure I am building, then decided I could probably benefit from sstaying around a while. and it's nice being on a forum with others who enjoy your smae interests. well I just got my first green iguana about 3 weeks ago. he is in a 20 gallon tank right now but I am building a nice 6'h x 5' l x 3' d enclosure for him. he is a scared cranky little bugger too. i tried to bite me but got my shirt instead. another day he tried again and was successful and got a finger. he does not like us right now. hopefully after I get his new home finished and set up and get him inside of it he will be more pleasant. i do understand though that he probably will not. honestly I don't have a problem with just providing a safe and warm place for him to live for the rest of his life and not really bothering him too much. i'm sure htere are some people that wouldn't like that but hey. i will down load some pictures of him when I learn how. hello hello hello
now goodbye goodbye goodbye ![]() |

Re: hello from Bo(me) and Iggy'o ( guess)
hi and welcome. I'm glad you realize your ig needs a huge enclosure for the rest of his life! Thats like mistake #1 with new owners. Don't forget the UVB!

Re: hello from Bo(me) and Iggy'o ( guess)
Welcome to Herp Center. I'm sure once your iggy gets more acclimated to his new surroundings and gets into a set routine, he'll start to calm down some. Patience is the key word. It may take months (or up to a year) before you're able to pick him up without much fuss.
Looking forward to seeing your pics!

Re: hello from Bo(me) and Iggy'o ( guess)
welcome! in addition to pics of iggy you should photograph your building progress for your enclosure. We love step by step instructions with pictures so that in the future other people can take a look and have a better idea of how to build theirs.

Re: hello from Bo(me) and Iggy'o ( guess)
Welcome to HerpCenter. There are a number of us ig slaves here!
Iguanas are complicated critters to keep. How about a rundown of how you are keeping him, what you feed, lighting etc. New keepers have often been led astray by bad information that floats around.

Re: hello from Bo(me) and Iggy'o ( guess)
Welcome!
Patience, patience, patience and time, time, time... that's what it takes for your iggy to trust you. And it's really so much more rewarding when you can handle your iggy.

Re: hello from Bo(me) and Iggy'o ( guess)
Good luck! Glad you're working on that larger enclosure. Everyone here has been very nice to me with what I've been going through with my rescue Iguana. They have even let me write my silly, boring little threads without throwing me out! This is my 3rd or 4th rescue iguana, but so far the only one to be able to maintain life on earth. It's also the largest Ig I've had.
