Hi!

I have a russian tortoise; I got him in June. He had the most outrageous fall midway through last month; I regularly let him go out on my balcony for some fresh air and sunshine but I put some boards up so he couldn't fall through (I'm on the third floor). When I went to check on him as I do frequently, I couldn't find him! I looked over the railing and saw him on the grass below! I ran down, and found him completely in tact. He was walking around! I checked him over thoroughly, all his limbs, head and tail showed no signs of injury nor did his shell. I know it's possible for there to be internal injuries, so I watched him very carefully for shell bruising or strange behavior. But he acts perfectly normal! He eats, poops and is as active as he was before. It's crazy! (I no longer let him out on the balcony, though!!!! Too cold anyway.)

Re: Hi!

Very lucky this time. You should probably remind him that he doesn't have wings.

In any case, welcome to Herp Center!

Re: Hi!

welcome! good to hear that your tort is ok. you might try getting some of the garden type fencing or something that you can make it so that he can't get past the railings, but can still be outside safely... (when it gets warmer of course! )
