New Emerald Swift Owner!

Hello guys, I'm new to this site. I have been searching high and low for info on Emerald Swifts! I got one as a birthday gift. It's a female, and small. She got a swollen eye so I took her to the vet. He said that it had pus so he cut right below the swollen area and flushed the pus out. He said that that eye might be blinded from this procedure. He told me to put antibotics on the cut area for 7 days. Problem...she won't let me! She doesn't even like being touched. I am scared to pick her up or to hold her. I tried but within few seconds she ends up on the top of my shoulder! She is SO fast. Since I wasn't able to put antibotics on her successfully, it looks like she got other swollen area on her face. I'll have to call the vet tomorrow and he'll probably cut her again. It's now on her ear area, on the same side of the previously swollen eye. Anybody have experiences with Emerald Swift and swollen pus ???? Thanks,

Re: New Emerald Swift Owner!

Hello,

I have owned Emerald Swifts, though I have not experienced the issues you are having right now.

When holding her, you need to be "firm" in your grip so that she can't take off. That doesn't mean squeeze her, just grasp her firmly.

If you don't use the medication, the issue will keep reoccuring. Are you offering her UV exposure?

Did the vet state why there was a pocket of puss? If other pockets are forming, I would be more concerned with why they are forming opposed to just treating them.

If the reason for their formation can be isolated, it can be corrected.
