Congrats on the new Uro. I can tell you are already enjoying the quirks of their personalities. Just a note that Romaine lettuce and all lettuces are not a good staple as they are have little nutritional value. Looks like he's going to be really happy with you.

I'd be careful with the aspen substrate, though. I was warned to stay away from it long ago. I can't remember why, at the moment. It was probably because of impaction risk. Does anyone else know anything about aspen bedding? I could be wrong about it.

It's simpler and cheaper to use plain paper towels, newspaper or slate, though, and much less of a risk to the health of your animal.

He's old enough to be on a dirt substrate. When you build your new enclosure make it deep enough to hold 6-8 inches of dirt(sand/clay mix) They love to burrow. The aspen could be dangerous. Uros like to thrash their food around a lot when they eat. The best thing to do with any substrate they are on is to have a piece of slate or tiled area where the food dish is. It will help eliminate the food contacting the substrate.
