Hello
My name is Ted and we just bought our son an Oscellated Skink for his birthday. He loves the little guy and named him Elmo. If anyone has info helpful advice for taking care of him, it would be greatly appreciated. He is currently living in a 20" x 10" aquarium, with mulch, a driftwood branch to climb on and a water dish. We have been feeding it crickets from out local pet store. We very rarely see the little guy because a majority of the time he buries himself in the mulch and doesn't come out. We all hope he becomes a little more social when he gets use to his new home.
Thanks, and I hope to hear from some of you fellow members soon.

Re: Hello
Hi Ted and welcome!
what type of mulch are you using? Be sure its not pine from home depot. Its toxic to critters. Head to your pet store and pick up a bag of reptile bark. Its made from fir trees and is much more healthy. What type of lighting do you have? What type of top do you have on the tank, and do you have a digital reader for heat and humidty? All these things will help with the care of your animal.
We have a caresheet for a fire skink. I'm not sure if its the same or similar care. Maybe someone else who is more familiar can chime in?

Re: Hello
Hmmm..where's Matt? He seems to be one of the members who is most well versed on the care of small skinks, he should wander by soon enough.
With that said, welcome to the site, we'd love to see pictures of Elmo and his cage.

Re: Hello
Welcome to HC Network....I believe occilated skinks tend to be more of the desert variety....I always had mine on sand/dirt mixture but of course that was years ago...I even had some babies...they are live bearers and the babies are adorable...I hadnt even known anyone was pregnant and suddenly I saw a baby swish by ...good luck and enjoy your skink....
