I'm not entirely sure but I think keeping Geckos is just as big in Japan as it is here and they are not quite as strict with animals laws as we are....at least I think so to some extent..I mean I believe hedgehogs and ferrets are legal there and they are a pretty ify subject here. So to me that speak pretty highly of there pet laws, of course if I do end up bring it with me...I will be looking into all the legalities of it..and making sure everything will work out ok. Just makes sense so I will make to sure to find out ahead of time if it is legal to have Geckos or not.

Re: hello to all!
I would think that the biggest hurdle would be actually getting them into the country. Many nations have very strict laws regarding the importation of exotic species.

Well see and I am starting to wonder about that now, because I remember reading an article online saying that keeping exotic pets in Japan has become a lot more popular and the government is trying accommodate people and their pets, because of it. But I think the article was focusing on exotic animals from islands around Japan and making sure people were not taking to many or abusing them. I also remember something in the article about there being very strict punishments for people that abuse animals in Japan...since pet owing is becoming more and more popular with lots of different kinds of pets.
lol totally off topic but one of the oddest things I have seen the Japanese own as pets are little dung Beatles I think? I know that owning big Beatles of some sort is extremely popular there..and many kids treat it like how American children would with getting a dog.
But yeah I have been trying to see if Geckos are allowed in Japan or not and not really having much luck when ever I do internet searches on the topic. Hopefully I can eventually come across something on the subject eventually.

Re: hello to all!
You might look into contacting the Japanese Embassy. Explain your situtation. They would most likely be more help than trying to come up with something on the internet.

Re: hello to all!
Yikes. Either they're legal there and popular, or they're illegal. Either way, I think I'd wait, just to be sure. Although if you do find out they're legal, you could get one ahead of time.
The big thing I would consider, though, is the stress on the animal. Reptiles hate change in their routines and environments. If it's a real excitable one, the stress of getting there, then undergoing more than one change in environment in a fixed period of time could cause him to become nervous and aggressive for awhile, and may start self-distructive behaviors. That's mostly just a matter of being vigilant, though.
Otherwise, I don't see why it would be a problem. I'd want to take my pets with me if I was moving out of the country.

Yeah I have to agree if I was to take him or her out of the country with me I would want to research into just what all I could do to make it as none stressful as possible...you do get to go in and feed and water them and such your self when they quarantined so I think that might be a good thing as far as to how much stress they get. I think I might just find out what kinds of animals are legal and illlegal in Japan now..because even if I do go there and don't bring anything with me...I would still eventually like to get pets when I am there and it would be better if I knew what kinds of stuff I could keep as pets and not when I am looking at getting something.
So either way finding out now what is allowed in the country will just serve me more better then good. So I think I will take Merlin's advise and contact the Japanese Embassy and ask them, it probalby will be a lot easier then goint though searching fo the information all by myself.
