Herpetology in College

Hello, my name is Makayl but I go by Mickey. I am a freshman in Clinton Community High School in Illinois and I was hoping that someone might recomend a college that specializes in herptology.

Re: Herpetology in College

Your best bets are the Canatella Lab at the University of Texas (though I'm not sure they do the course anymore), the University of Arizona (again, I'm not sure the course is up and running), Cortland Herpetology Connection, State University of New York College at Cortland, Harvard University, Department of Herpetology, the University of Florida (Herpetology Programs and Faculty).

There is no formal training in herpetology. Many people who are interested in becoming Herpetologists often pursue a University study strategy of taking many Biology and Zoology courses, then applying for a Masters or Ph.D. position with a person who has their Ph.D. and works on reptiles for their careers.

Re: Herpetology in College

You might inquire at your local universities to see if there is anyone involved in studying local populations of reptiles. Could be an inroad.

Welcome. Let us know when you do find a program and how things go!

Do you currently own any reptiles?
