New to Boas But Jumped into the Deep End...
Hello,
I have two Colombian Boas (One 30 inches, and one 5.5 Feet).
I have 3 cages, one 55 for the 30 inch, one 180 for the 5.5 foot, and a small 35 for feeding. I am in a one bedroom apartment. As you can see it is getting crowded already. I have been reading a lot of info on the net trying to decide what is good info and what is BS.... I will be coming in here often from the look of the quantity and quality of the users. First question I have that I have not found an answer to is..... What is URI? I have a feeling I don't want to know....

Welcome to the HC Network!
As stated, a URI is an upper respirator infection. It is almost the reptile equivalency to pneumonia.
It is normally associated with humidity or the lack therof. It can however manifest from other issues.
Wheezing, rasping, gurgling, sneezing/coughing (sounds) are often indicators.

Welcome!
URI's are nasty and usually need to be treated with antibiotics and habitat changes.
Another symptom is mouth breathing.
It's a good idea to get a general health check up when you get new pets, that way you have a good trusted vet incase anything does come up.
If you don't have one off hand you might try: Herp Vet Connection or ARAV
Welcome to the site!

Re: New to Boas But Jumped into the Deep End...
Welcome to HC. I too love boas (4 and counting) they are great snakes with a wonderful disposition, unfortunately they are succeptible to URI's so it is important to keep the humidity at proper levels. Do you have any pics to post ? I'd love to see them as would our other members.

Re: New to Boas But Jumped into the Deep End...
I try to keep the humidity at around 60 percent in both enclosures. I notice when I bring the heat up the humidity starts dropping. I use a spray bottle to combat that.
Willamena (the 5 foot female) blows in my ear when I carry her around, but I don't think thats a problem. Just a puff in my ear. Must be love.... LMAO...

Welcome to HerpCenter!
Boas are great snakes! I have 2.
URI's can also be caused by temperatures that are too low.
And up till a year ago I was also in a one bedroom apartment so I feel your pain!
