Newbie from New Zealand
Hi everyone,
I actually signed up a few months ago, but haven't been back since! I'd forgotten all about it until I got an email from HC about it.
My name is Jan, and I live in New Zealand, where winter is clearly on its way today.
Anyway, we have a 2 1/2 yr old RES, and a 15 yr old RES. The 15 year old was a rescue pet that we got about a month ago. People tell you that putting turtles together isn't a good idea, but these two get along completely fine, even though the 15 yr old has been alone in her tank for most of her life. It's actually been good for her to have another turtle in the tank, because the smaller turtle shows her that trying new foods is a good thing! Compared to how she was living before, she thinks she's in heaven (she didn't even have a basking area or artificial lighting, and was living in a tank in a dark hallway .

Thanks! Mertle (the smaller one) is so happy to have a friend - he was from a pet store.
The two of them are quite cosy - it's not uncommon to find Mertle sitting on top of Kate basking, or sleeping on top of her at night!
