hello hello hello, Im quite please to have found another herp forum . My name is Nathan Watkins, and I have to say I love the sections of herpcenter! I Breed mostly whitespotted geckos, and occasionally crested geckos. But most recently I have purchased my first bearded dragon. So I'll more than likely have many questions for you Bearded Dragon owners out there. Just wanted to drop in and say hello.
This is my new buddy Turbo. hes about 3 months old at 9 inches long. Sorry I dont have a weight, my scale is currently down .
PS: he use to be in a 10 gallon tank w/ walnut bedding. Hes now in a 45 gallon tank w/ tile flooring. Ill be sure to get some updated pictures soon as possable.

Hello,
Welcome to the HC Network! I hope you enjoy the site.
I too liked seeing that you removed the dragon from the walnut shell. That stuff is garbage. Are you keeping your geckos on it? If you are, I would suggest removing it. There is nothing natural about the walnut shells and they pose more of an impaction risk than many other substrates out there because they are larger grained and have jagged edges.
I know you may not "see" an issue now, but when you do "see" the issue, it will likely be too late for the animal.
An impaction can take years to develop. Its called a "chronic impaction". Thats when the substrate slowly builds up in the intestinal tract.
The one most people think of though is the acute impaction. thats when a large object, or large quantity of substrate is ingested and causes an immediate issue.
The chronic impaction is the dangerous one because it takes so long to develop that by the time you realize there is a problem, its already to late!

the 45 gallon tank with tile should be good to go, even when when my dragon grows up right?

Welcome to the HCN! I keep a white-spotted gecko myself They're neat little buggers. I too would advise against the walnut shells as bedding for them though. To answer your other question, I believe a 45 would suite a bearded dragon, but I don't keep them myself.
