Hi :D

My name is Dawn & I'm a newbie. I'm really glad I found you guys!! A friend of mine bought her child a Chinese Water Dragon and wanted to get rid of it because the kid wasn't feeding it or watering, etc. I felt bad for the poor baby and rescued him. When they brought him over (w/ all his stuff) I looked at him/her and its poor little snout is crooked, so I asked why. They laughed and told me he always runs into the glass So I made a vet appt. for him/her this Sat. I have always wanted some sort of reptile (frog or lizard) and I'm REALLY glad I got a Chinese Water Dragon! Its the funniest little creature ever!
I have also had a fire-bellied Newt for about 10 years (although he is way easier to take care of) and am involved in Basset Hound Rescue (I have 4).

Sorry this got so long, but its nice to meet other herp lovers!

Dawn

Hello and welcome to HC. CWDs are know for snout rubbing. I do not own a Chinese Water Dragon but there are several here that do and would be great help to you.
One way to stop the snout rubbing or running in the glass is to make sure he cant see out, they see their reflection and run into it and rub. lol. Also what do you have him in tank size?

The tank is pretty big, but not very deep. I would say 30-40 gallons. And I did put paper about 6 inches high all the way around the tank so he would stop. I have a 55 gallon tank that I used to keep tropical fish in, so I am going to change his home this weekend.

I will post pics of my crazy zoo when I get home tonight.

Good idea, about how big is he? That 55 gallon will make him a good home. Just make sure its really clean, 1 part bleech and 10 parts hotwater will help clean it. Let it sit 24-48 hours, and then rinse it out with hot soapy water.

HI Dawn and welcome to HCN. Good job on the vet appt, sounds like some snout damage that needs attention. Also here is a link to a great Chinese Water Dragon site with lots of useful information.

I haven't really measured him yet, but his body is maybe 5-6 inches long (the ppl I got him from said he is only 9 months old).

Thanks for the advice on cleaning the new tank - I was wondering about that
