Re: My Iguana Has A Large Bump On Its Lower Left J

Hello,

Did you have a phone consultation with the vet or did he actually see your iguana? What did he say it was?

That is not normal. It could be several different things. I would like to know what the vet thought of it, when it appeared, and did the vet run any blood work?

Re: My Iguana Has A Large Bump On Its Lower Left J

Hello,

That iguana needs to be seen. That abcess could be a number of things, including a tumor. At the minimal, the vet will likely have to lance that in order to drain it. Also, blood work needs to be done to see if there is any type of infection that requires antibiotics.

With an injury that close to the mouth, stomatitis may also set in.

I highly suggest a vet visit for this one. That growth is abnormal and unexplained.

OUCH! My cat had something very similar to his lip. It was highly infected and took lots of antibiotics to clear up. It was also drained by the vet. I would take him in.

Ouch! That looks terrible, you need to find a qualified reptile vet to treat that.

Yes, I was going to ask if the vet you talked to was a reptile vet or not. Definitely find a rep vet, and get him to the vet right away.

Re: My Iguana Has A Large Bump On Its Lower Left J

That looks bad. From what you told me in the email , that the iguana had scratched itself with the back leg I would say its probably an abcess, and a serious one.
This iguana needs to be seen by a qualified Herp Vet as soon as possible. I would look to a different one than the one that told you to just wash it! An abcess would need to be lanced and emptied.
Where in Oklahoma are you?

I agree, that probably needs to be lanced, followed by a round of some antibiotics. A good herp vet is in order!

Good luck and keep us posted!
