pics of no teeth

ok so here are the pics of the no tooth iguana I took in yesterday, I actually discovered he really has three way in the back on the upper right side but geez, poor thing! He is now not interested in food, so it is the old syringe and baby food routine again. Check out the tongue though, pretty interesting.

No tell me how can this iguana be five years old?

Also he has no name so if anyone wants to help with that suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I dont think no teeth is a nice name, lol and that is what his file says now, lol.

Re: pics of no teeth

Gummy! (That's my vote anyway)

He looks alot like Dizzy did when he was a baby....

Strange on the no teeth thing, but hopefully they will grow back.

Re: pics of no teeth

Hello,

That iguana is likely older than you believe it to be. The reason I am saying this is because of the coloring of the tongue. The tip of an iguanas tongue is normally darker than the rest of the tongue (like your picture shows). It's normally unnoticeable until an iguana is a few years old.

Iguanas have sensors on their tongues similar to snakes. Instead of the "scents" going into the jacobsons organ like a snakes does, it relays messages to the vomeronasal organ. (Lots of animals have this including humans at birth.)

Those little sensors are located at the tip of the tongue which seems to make it darker.

The pale coloring of the inner mouth is a little odd. I do know that color changes inside the mouth though are another sign of ulcerative stomatitis. I can't and won't say for certain that this iguana has mouth rot, but the discoloration and the lack of teeth would indicate "something" is amuck.

Re: pics of no teeth

How about the name Ambrose? It means "immortal". Give the little guy a little hope, there.

If I remember correctly, Blake means "pale" (which he is, poor thing).

Re: pics of no teeth

Well I started the subcue fluids this morning after talking on the phone again to the vet. I go in on Friday. I think this one will be here a while and cost a pretty penny. geez and I was almost done with the whole injection thing, lol.I just dont see any signs of mouthrot other than the no teeth thing, but that can be caused by the lack of calcium. I will have a reptile panel done on him. He is definately a little older as his femoral pores are definately a lot pronounced, lol. That just happened this morning, he must sense all the males in the house as they sense him, lol. I am not totally giving up hope as Grizzly has actually started growing
