Any advice on how to treat my iguanas mouth problem(sometimes its bleeding)
Can I use 'Betadine' and how?????????
I would be greatfull for any other advice...

what part of his mouth is bleeding? Is it at the very tip? Does it look infected? I'm not sure what Betadine is

TAKE IT TO A VET!

'Mouth problems' could be any number of things and the iguana will probably need anti-biotics to help clear it up. I don't mess around with mouth problems, it is difficult to tell how bad they are and even more difficult to self diagnose and treat.

Also the other members of the site are going to want to know all of your husbandry details (cage size, temps, UVB, diet, iguanas age, etc)

Also the use of betadine in the mouth isn't standard procedure. Nolvasan is better to use around mucus membranes and in any situation where it ay be swallowed.

Is the mouth bleeding all the time, only when it eats, or is there any pattern to it at all?
This is not normal.
And trying to treat something by yourself when you do not know what you are doing can make things worse than they already are.
I too would strongly suggest a vet visit!

I agree with the vet visit....any number of things could be going on...please make sure your vet is reptile qualified....good luck...oh and Welcome to HC Network....keep us posted about your ig.....

I agree a vet visit is in order. Dragon gets gingivitis due to her exposed gums. They get dry and start bleeding. I was given some oral cleanser that can be used to keep her gums moist. I was told not to use Betadine or neosporin for this problem. You need to know what your dealing with first before treating it.

Definitely the vet visit, Lyn and Moshpitrock Chick are right; it could be any number of things wrong with your ig and some can be downright dangerous to it.

it bleeds on the sides,and I dont think its infected but im not sure.
Also some stuff forms around his mouth.But I was cleaning his mouth with warm water and vitamins that he supposed to eat.And his mouth looks a bit better.But im still a bit worried about my ig.

i think I will take him to the vet just to make sure his fine.

My Iggy's mouth was bleeding. I just back from the vet's and he has an abscess, on his lower left jaw. The vet gave him a big dose of oral antibiotics. I have to go back in 3 days for another dose of antibiotics. Then another office visit in 2 weeks. So if your Iggy has a bleeding mouth, GO TO THE VET'S
