Ok let me pop the cherry of this section of the forum. FIRST POST!

There seems to be a problem with the new private message alert thing. It alerts me to a new message received which is great, but even if I read the message 7 times it is still poping up the alert every time I go to the forum. May want to change that?

I get the same thing.

You are looking at a cached page, refresh the page and this (almost always) goes away.

MAR is right on the money with it! It's a cached page. Every time you visit a site on the net, a page is stored in a temp directory on your computer. This makes pages load faster after you have visited them because the info and pics are already loaded.

People who clean their computers regularly or those who have large cache drives partitioned will normally not be affected in the manner that you are.

Those will small hard drives, small amount of cache space allocated, or who don't clear their caches regularly will be.

Once your cache is full, new pages begin overwriting old pages. If you have a ton of old pages stored in the cache, they will be retrieved until a new copy of the page overwrites them. Refreshing the page like Mark suggested is one way to speed up the process.

I have also noticed that this occurs when acceleration software is being used. Some dialup companies offer acceleration software that helps pages load faster. They also use a cache. That cache will also cause that same type of problem.
