Weird Behavior

Hello, I am new around here but have found it an amazing place for information so far.
I came to the boards to find info about Ball Pythons but am having a spot of trouble with my Iggy.

He is about 3 years old and I have never had a hissing or bitting problem with him, last night I went home from work to give him his bath and he would not let me near him. He hissed and tried to tail whip me nonstop, no matter what I did he acted the same way to me the entire night.
I have not changed anything, he has a cage that is 8'Lx7'Tx4'W his temperatures, humidity, food is all correct but he was really aggressive towards me last night.

Any ideas why this would take place? Did I just catch him in a bad mood last night? I thought I was lucky because my Iggy never hissed or tried to bite but I can not say that anymore.

Thanks for the help

re: Weird Behavior

It may be a bad mood, or it may have been the clothing you were wearing, or it could be that he is going into breeding season. There are too many variables.

re: Weird Behavior

Thanks for the compliment. We are a great community. I agree that there are many variables that could haved caused the ig to be that way. Any time after 2 ish years of age is when breeding season can start. So he may just be going into it. Hope everything works out for you. Just be careful of those teeth!

re: Weird Behavior

I'm glad you like it here.
Just as a test, if there is no aggression today, try putting the clothes on you were wearing yesterday and see if it makes a difference.
My ig is usually fine with people but a neighbor was wearing a shirt with big circles on it (probably looked like eyes ).
Zok went nuts!

If the aggression continues you might consider having a vet check. sudden behavior changes can be a sign of illness.

re: Weird Behavior

Red can be a very aggressive color, it doesn't seem to bother Dizzy though, he just tries to eat it.

re: Weird Behavior

May I ask if you are male or female, Corey?

Because male iguanas are known to be sensitive to hormone fluctuations in women, and tend to become aggressive towards them during their time of the month.

But, like Merlin said, he could have just been in a bad mood that day.

re: Weird Behavior

I am male, he has always been sort of aggressive at my wife during certain times but has always tolerated me. I always enter his cage, clean it, feed him, change water without so much as a flinch but now yesterday and today he just does not want me near him.

Could it be a problem with the smell from my Python? I Usually handle the iggy first and then go for the snake later at night but lately have been teaching my son about the snake before going to get the iggy out.

re: Weird Behavior

Its a possibility but I doubt it. I have numerous species of snakes and there has never been any sign of reaction to the scent.
