Cagemates for Iggies

well, I have someone who wants to get rid of there iguana, luckyly I will be getting his cage and lamps and everything. the thing is I already have charlie a 3 year old ig...I am worried because will this cause a huge probleme????
I wanted to put them together but I am thinking of keeping each of them in there own cage. I read things that we should not put igs together but I am wondering if any of you have every tried it.

Re: Cagemates for Iggies

Igs don't usually tolerate one another, they are not social creatures. This could result in lots of stress and even fights with injuries.

Re: Cagemates for Iggies

I will never keep two iguanas in the same house ever again. They were never relaxed, always on edge looking for the other iguana. During free roaming time the iguana who was out would just claw at the door looking to get to the other iguana who was all the way in the basement.

I think a lot of it had to do with th fact that they were both male.

Either way I would definitely keep them in their own enclosures. Better safe than sorry.

Not to mention DEATH!
Igs are solitary and extremely territorial.
They have even been known to kill each other during mating!

Re: Cagemates for Iggies

With your iguana's disabilities I would really stress not letting them get near each other. It is likely that a new healthy iguana would try to dominate the other.

Re: Cagemates for Iggies

I had a feeling I would be getting these awnsers lol....no I dont feel safe at all putting them together....I was thinking of putting them both in different rooms. I dont want charlie to feel like he isnt loved anymore. he is doing better by the way, wont need an operatio, looks mostly like a humidity probleme...so I bought a humidifier...anyways back to the iguana....would it be okay if they were in seperate rooms?? I really want to adopt this little one...he needs a home and I adore iguanas ever since I got charlie.

Re: Cagemates for Iggies

Again for charlie the regular vet talked with a vet in montreal (herp vet) and we sent photos to him and we found out that it was mostly a humidity problem because for it to be gangrene his tail would have to be completly dead...and he is shedding on it and he seems normal on it except for the spikes.

It might work and then again it might not.
And one ig smelling the other one on YOU might attack you!

Re: Cagemates for Iggies

Years ago, I had a juvie ig. I decided to get another baby ig so I put them together not knowing any better. The next day the baby was mangled! I at first couldn't understand what happenned. I immediately seperrated them , but it was of no use. The baby died from multiple injuries. This is my 2 cents.
