update to taming a two year old..

Hi all
I have once again gotten to busy at work to get down to taming my 2year old
although I can say I was able to potty train her and my 2 year old son since then.

I am feeling so frustrated.

How much time would you guys suggest to spend as a bear minimum and would you guys suggest taking spike out after dark??

I have heard so many people say no not at all because it would upset their "internal clocks" and so many others say their igi's rule the house after dark.. and if this is ok then it gives me a whole extra lot of time..

Thanks

Re: update to taming a two year old..

I know several people who's approach to taming was to wait until an hour after lights out and take the ig out while it was still sleeping and just sit with it. Now I wouldn't suggest going in in the middle of the night and messing with it. That would be stressful!
I know that I wouldn't care much for it!

Re: update to taming a two year old..

20 mins a day during waking hours is the suggested minimum for socializing an ig - and like Merlin - I've heard of...and have known personally one woman and her ig...who did the "after lights out" method. She is all of 4'5" and her ig is now well over 5'. She swears his gentle demeanor is a direct result of her t.v. time with him after his bedtime. He still tries to snuggle under her neck like he did when she started him out very young...

Re: update to taming a two year old..

When I adopted Mary Jane (a green ig) she was quite a handful. I let her free range in a room and have her run of the house. She calmed down after a few weeks of that. Now she is just a baby doll and was recently placed in a new home.

I also tried this method.
But in my opinion spike just got worse, she had her own room which was my office at the time she would be fine when I would leave her alone.
But if I would just even look at her she would be aware of it.
and look for a place to hide.

I would not recommend allowing an ig that was not socialized to free roam. In the event of needing to capture it you end up chasing it around the room! You effectively take on the appearance and mannerisms of a predator. This is not conducive to building trust.

Re: update to taming a two year old..

I agree with not allowing an unsocialized ig to free-roam. Not only does that make you look like a predator, but you have absolutely NO control of that ig's interactions with children, visitors, and animals.

As for taking it out at night: do it 30-60 minutes after lights out, keep the room dark, and just work on stroking the neck and back, quietly talk to the ig too.

I did this with Gil, and unless he's in season, he's a doll.

Patience though!
