Damaged Neck Spines

Gandhi crawled into a tight space the other day and when we got him out two of his neck spines were wounded. There is a little bit of black at the base of two spines, and one spine appears to be pulled up out of the base a bit. I have been using Neosporin on it, and the blackness has reduced a bit.
I know that blackness on a tail can mean necrotic tissue, and requires a vet to remove it.....can necrotic tissue develop on the base of the neck? It looks like the scales just got damaged or bruised or whatever, but I wanted to hear what you guys had to say about it. Sorry no pics, I am camera defficient....

Any tissue can become necrotic I believe, I would suggest a vet trip if the black spreads, I didnt take my Chinese Water Dragon to the vet right away when her tail was damaged and turned black, the infection ended up getting so bad it was killing herhealthy scales, turning them black, so its very important to make sure it dosnt get infected.
