Hello, I'm glad I found this forum.

My iguana starting spazzing out and would not stop. I put a towel over it to keep it from hurting itself. What should I do in this case?

I made an appointment for tommorow in the morning so I'm wondering what I should do right now to keep it from hurting itself.

Yeah...define 'sapzzing out'...like he got upset or like he's having seizures?

How old is he?
What's his diet?
How about cage, substrate and lighting?

Well, sun exposure has been minimum in the past few weeks. It was somewhat of a seizure because he was moving as if he was swimming.

How old is he? - I would say about 3-4 years.
What's his diet? - Mostly broccoli and lettuce. The following week mostly papaya.
How about cage, substrate and lighting? - He is usually in my brothers bed. We usually turn the light on at night.

A few minutes ago I took the towel off of him and he climbed a matress I have in my brothers room. He is also eating (broccoli and lettuce).

There could be a number of things contributing to poor health. Lettuce is never a good thing for iguanas to eat. You'll want to avoid it whenever possible. He should be eating a diet mainly of dark leafy greens - like collards or mustard greens - and assorted fresh vegetables, with a little fruit. I believe there is a feeding chart included in the care sheet.

Also, does he have a basking area and do you have something to check the humidity in the area he frequents? It may be that he's missing vital lighting or heat elements.

Definitely get him checked out by a vet.

Yeah i'm with Tiff, it's definitely time for a diet over-haul.

And stick to it...they can get fussy and try to stop eating until you give in and give them goodies like lettuce, but it's really not doing them any favors. Try buying mustard greens, they seem to be the easiest thing to get into a lettuce addict.

I'd also recommend you set up his own 'space' for him, even if it's not in a cage he shuld have a high spot where he can go to get some UVB and heat and just get away from everything, sometimes a converted closet works well.

Does he get vitamins or calcium with his food?

Welcome to our forum. I believe he does need a vet check and definitely a change in diet. He also needs access to UVB rays...on a daily basis so if he cannot go outside for it, then he should have a bulb to produce it for him. Metabolic Bone Disease causes seizures and sometimes it is too late for the ig...hope that isnt the case for yours. good luck and keep us posted!!!
