Poor Lucky!
Well I have had a turn for the worse here. Lucky the badly burned iguana started seizing yesterday, I rushed him to the trauma center, come to find out he had a few foreign objects impacted in him, mainly a rock that had finally moved its way down through the intestinal track where it could no move any more. I had them perform the surgery to remove the objects and the mass amount of feces that were compacted. The interesting thing was he was still going poo, just not a lot. The surgery was a success, however the infection is what is not looking good. He is still at the trauma center, he has arrested once and was brought back, he requires 24 hour care to keep his passages clear to breathe, plus he gets oxygen also, when his level drops. He is on iv antibiotics and fluids. I just put in the DNR order for him, as I do not want to prolong the inevitable. It was amazing that he was alive when he came in so I hope he pulls through this one! My poor baby!
Not to mention my poor checkbook, He better pull through as my bill is well over a grand already! Why do trauma docs get away with highway robbery........hmph....... |

I agree! You are the best shot at making it he could have had.
So many others would have just written him off! You're an angel!!

Well as of 7:00 am he is hanging in there. He did not arrest at all last night and had only one seizure, so time will tell. I hope he just fights long enough to let the antibiotics start working properly. He must have had those objects in him for quite a while as he is one of the meanest iguanas I have and is never allowed to roam free without being supervised at all times. I cannot believe we missed that with all the times he has been to the vet since I got him in. If he is going to pull through he will be there at least another 5 days until his lungs clear and he has no need to be suctioned or for the oxygen. He is 24 hour care now and I know I cannot do 24 hour care.
