My Green Iguana... Bud. =)

Okay, so here's how it is... he's about 4 - 5 years old, I've had him since he was a tiny baby that I bought from a local pet store. He's a very docile and well rounded iguana and I love him like a family member. He's on free roam with a perch and whatnot. His new perch is still under construction and after having several redesigns and re-dos on stuff, I've managed to get the "house" done and just put it on top of his old perch.

Bud... a good six months after I got him and he was just then becoming use to being free in my room only. The terrarium we built for him was an awesome setup where he also shared his living space with about five Green Anoles and they got along great... except for one that thought he was the leader, he jumped up at Bud and flashed his dulap, Bud smacked him off the heated tube with his tail. It was hilarious.

Staring out the window. He'd sit there for hours.

Exact same window, four years later. =)

Took this about a week ago, my new iguanasitter has become the bathroom mirror. He has yet to attack that other iguana that mocks him though...

Him refusing to get off of my work clothes so I could go to work that night.

And the old perch with his new sleeping home on top. It's getting old, yeah... the carpeting is coming off, but he uses that to climb up and down it from various parts... actually, he's probably the one that's pulled it away from the wood, heh. But it's getting old... it's been a complaint of my own for a long time that I haven't had the room to put up the new perch. So I'm getting it built little by little and I'm gonna put it up when I move into my new place soon.

The new perch is going to be a quadraped design with PVC cylinders bracing the tiers. The PVC will be carpeted with this carpet that's perfect for him to dig his claws into and climb up and down. It'll have about three tiers, the top will be his sleeping box with a front porch on it that'll be his "chilling spot". The second will be for his heat lamp, UV lamp and his food dish. All carpeted. I also want to get some extra PVC and build some "branches" off of it so it can simulate a tree as much as possible.

But yeah, he's a happy, healthy 4 - 5 year old iguana. He's very tame and loves affection. Sometimes when I'm petting him, I'll go back to my computer desk and he'll climb down off his perch, climb over my bed and jump on me so I can keep giving him attention.

Complaints? Opinions?

Looks like Bud is in great hands...

Hello!

So is that speaker there on his perch for your enjoyment or his?

Sadly my mother lets my iguana listen to country music and he seems to have a taste for it, i just can't understand why he doesn't appreciate rock

Tell you the truth, that speaker wasn't even hooked up to the receiver, so it was just sitting there for him to climb on, I guess. I've taken it down now... but honestly, Bud seems to enjoy rock music. While I'm playing Motograter or Chevelle, he'll sit up like... with his front arms stretched out, ya know? And just sit there like he's listening to it. BUT when I listen to Rammstein, he gets totally into it and bobs his head sometimes. It's kinda funny to me, it's like he knows how to headbang to german metal. =P

VERY COOL IGGY! I always liked them (small lol) I never thought I would have room for one, but after seeing a free roaming iggy I might have to rethink about not being able to have one.

Yeah, we built a large terrarium for him to grow up in and after he got bigger... I just left it's lid open and let him roam my room. The best part of it is... is that he's always been so tame, that I've never had to worry about him tearing stuff up. It's like he knows his limits, where he can and can't go... and even though he's allowed throughout the house (minus the basement and attic), he still sits on his perch under his lights all day. He'll climb down and roam around, climb on the furniture and stare out the windows... but after a few hours of that, he'll come right back to my room and climb up the branch, back onto the perch. It's like... if you give them total free roam, and you're there to show them to NOT do certain things (climb on the curtains, poo on the furniture, ect), then he'll know it and accept it. He's a real gem of an iguana... very happy with my big buddy.

Nice looking rig with one exception. The UVB light is too far away. A flourescent light needs to be at the very maximum 12 inches from the ig to be beneficial. Even closer is better. the UVB content of the light drops off dramatically the farther away the bulb is. I would also get a longer light so the entire ig can be under it.
