Chubby chick Liv

This is what our member has to say: Ok I'm assuming she's female anyway because I hope so. Here's a new pic of her! She's kinda chubby....

Hi Anthony,

(S)he looks terrific!! Looks like (s)he does have an attitude. You should be proud. I personally think Liv will be a boy. But that is just a feeling. Thanks for sharing.

Adorable, look at those talons!
I'm kind of with Marie on this....I don't know why, maybe its just how many iguanas i've dealt with, but "Liv" looks like she might end up being called "Tyler" some time. It's too early to tell for sure though. (S)he looks fat and happy either way!

She does look thick like a boy, but at 7.5 inches snout to vent length if it was a boy it should be sexually mature by now? Thought boys get that by 6 inches snout to vent length. Yet the femoral pores are like those of a girls, hardly can see them at all. And He/she has only head bobbed once in a slow manner ever.

Either way I'll love him/her so much. If its a boy then less worry about gravidity.

Hi Replover,
Soooo glad you finally posted a photo of your Ig.!
How old is (s)he? As far as them becoming sexually mature
by a certain length I myself have not heard of that, but that doesnt mean its
not correct. Did Liv puff up when you took its photo? making it look alot bigger? Also what is snout to tail length, (just curious).

But to me it looks like a girl, but Im partial cuz I have a girl.

Either way the colors are great! Looks like your off to a good start.

snout to vent length=Snout to Vent Length
snout to tail length=Snout to Tail Length
The 6" male and 10" female snout to vent length for sexually maturity is more of a minimum size rather than exact size at time of maturity. The Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual by James W Hatfield III is where I first seen the information but it may be in other sources too.

Kristy, I didn't list my pets on my signature but mine would be the same as yours. I would love to see your ig too!

Thanks Marie, I do know the difference between snout to vent length and snout to tail length, but I think Natalie was asking what is the snout to tail length on my ig, and not what is snout to tail length in general.

Natalie, Liv was last measured about a week and a half ago. At that point, (s)he was 7.5 inches snout to vent length and 25 inches snout to tail length. I measure her about once every week or two weeks and she grows every time, so she may be an inch or so bigger now. I had already posted two pics of my ig before, one when she was still at the pet shop and one after 4 weeks at about 24" snout to tail length and 6.5 inches snout to vent length. Wow what a difference!

Oh yes, Natalie, you asked about the age.
I am not entirely sure. I suspect about 7 and a half months or so.
This is because I have had her for 5 and a half weeks.
I asked the pet store how old she was and at first the guy said 1.5 months. Then he changed his mind and said 3 months. Then I confronted him about why his other iguanas that are 3 months as he said, were smaller (Liv was the only one left over from the last shipment, because no one would buy her) and then he said 6 months. I think the last one is more accurate because her size matches, so I will assume that now she is 7 and a half months old. Of course that is not taking into account that she may have been a few weeks old before being shipped over here from Columbia. She never had any UV and only one kind of vegetable in her life before she arrived at my place. They fed her those silly solar drop things at the pet store. The guy is friendly just misinformed, so I don't confront him about that now, as he'll just say he has dealt with herps for 30 years and who am I to tell him or whatever. But he has some pretty sick animals there. He has this full grown male there about 5 feet snout to tail length kept in a little tank so that he's almost folded and doubled up, no UV at all in its whole life, kept on wood bark pieces, one kind of vegetable, fed oral D3 in the form of a multimineral for Chameleons with extra solar drops. It doesn't even have any HEAT other than a small household bulb, which is probably around 60 watts or lower judging from the size and the fact that it was in a PLASTIC socket. It is literally skin and bones and the tail is triangular instead of round. It has those popeye legs and arms of Metabolic Bone Disease and doesn't even open its eyes unless you try to move it. I feel so bad for it. I can't adopt it though because of space now that I have Liv and also the guy says he wants ten thousand hong kong dollars for it (roughly $1300 USD).
