Bugs?
Today I was washing out my iguana's cage, and I saw tiny white looking bugs that seemed to fly too. I supposed it was from the food since my iggy's screen cage is on the floor. I hosed everything down. I use a reddish bark for flooring; I forgot what it's called exactly. I haven't seen my iggy scratching or any bugs on him but what could those bugs be? Everything in the cage is artifical. As far as humidity it's a misty spray in the morning and at night, and I constantly wet the veggies. I noticed them just today after leaving these small colorful fruity pebble looking food on his tray with dry fruits made for iggys that I bought at the pet store since I went on vacation for the weekend and couldn't replace veggies. Maybe they attracted the bugs?

Re: Bugs?
Without a picture of the bugs, I doubt we could identify them for you. I do have a couple of suggestions though...
1. Get rid of the bark! Your iguana may accidentally eat it. If this happens, your iguana could get impacted and need to have surgery to remove the piece of bark that he ate.
2. Don't ever feed pellets without first soaking them well. Dry pellets act like sponges. If they're soaked, they BRING moisture to your ig; if they're NOT soaked, they TAKE moisture from your ig. Also, many brands are made with animal protein (namely fish meal). We recommend that you use ONLY RepCal brand iguana pellets.

Re: Bugs?
I tried looking online and it says that they are black or red and run across eyelids. I haven't seen either, just these white little ones. I have a feeling it was the humidity.
But what kind of flooring may you suggest?
And yes, before I left I moistened them and left a water dropper to drop every once in a while. It was in fact for strictly juvenile iguanas, I forgot the brand though.

So you were thinking they were mites?

Any non-particulate substrate (kinds that are not made up of pieces). Some possibilities are papertowels, newspaper, linoleum, or tile.

Re: Bugs?
I hope they werent mites! For me and my iggy's sake. I'll have to check tomorrow morning again.
As far as flooring, I've heard of some that are irritating to the iggy's skin and not recommended.
Would it be those iguana made carpet flooring?

Re: Bugs?
Relax! Mites don't fly!
What you are getting is probably some sort of gnat that is attracted to or may even have been in the bark flooring.
Most people use either tiles or just linoleum in the bottom of the cage. I use tiles with a layer of black and white newspaper over it to facilitate cleaning.

Re: Bugs?
I used to use linoleum, now I'm using carpet and a lot of the time its covered with newsprint to facilitate cleaning just in case he has an accident.

Re: Bugs?
I use sheet vinyl flooring... no newspaper on top. If/when he poop paints, it's on his SHELF anyway!

Re: Bugs?
In the reptile shop where I purchased my iguana, I mentioned the iguana made carpet for flooring they sell at pet shops. The guy mentioned that it tends to irritate iggy bellies. Is that true? Or am I better off just getting tile or carpet?

Let me guess,....
That particular shop doesn't sell the carpet!
The reptile carpet is not going to be nearly as abrasive as rocks and tree bark!
Some people use the carpet but everytime it gets fouled you are going to have to take it out, wash it, and let it dry. So you will actually need two peices. One to be in the cage while the other is being washed and dried.
You will be much better off with tiles or linoleum. Something that you can just wipe down in case of accidents.
And there WILL be accidents.
