Old Burns causeing shed trouble

Hi people I need to ask what can I do to help " Clara Belle" my little rescue iggy with shedding problems. The old skin just keeps building up and is causing the uvb light to be ineffective. Humidity is between 60 and75% ,diet is collards, mustard greens . butternut squash, green beans, with mango or papaya , and occassional piece of strawberry for a treat.
The bulb is the megaray 60 eb and is working as I having checked it with a solarmeter 6.2 .I mist often but the skin just will not release. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Try soaking the ig for 20-30 minutes a day and that should help the patch of skin come off. You might also try rubbing a little bit of mineral oil into the area.
I wouldn't worry as much about the UVB not getting to that patch of skin. Igs use their entire skin to process the uvb.

You can try rubbing cod liver oil on it, that will help loosen it up a bit

Paul,
Is the area just by the burn or all over the Iggy? Our Iggy was burned by the previous owner (by accident) the area was all of his right belly/side. It took a good 6 months or more to heal. It went through many different stages a couple of months ago the whole scale are peeled off and you could see the pink skin. Now the area is getting smaller and smaller, the area get crusty and the flakes off. Then new scales are under the crusty area. We use neopsorine and gave him baths. For the longest time he was a very unhappy iggy now he seem a lot happier (doesn't try to bit or whip his tail when you go in the cage).

If you can get silvadine (Silver Sulfadiazine) from your vet that would work a little faster. It is specifically for burns. I think someone recommended it already here or the other forum. It works on other wounds too. I've used it on myself for iguana bites/scratches.

Our iggy with the burn ate very little (unless Sean hand fed) during the time his burn was really bad. Once it started to heal he began eating like an iggy piggy. Here is the link to the thread about our iggy's burn, there are pictures included. Iguana Problem
