Femoral Pore Plug Disloged

I was just holding Bob and he started to struggle so I used the typical restraint such that neither of us got hurt. That is continue to support his body with my arm under him and my hand gripping under his front legs and my other hand over the top of him to contain his back legs with his tail tucked under my arm. Once I got him back in his cage I noticed blood on my arm I did not get cut but it is his blood.

After further inspection one of his large femoral pore plugs came out. This was by far the largest he had and measures 10 mm wide, 15 mm long, and 8 mm tall. There is now a large empty hole in his right hind leg in roughly the middle pore. There is blood but it is not actively bleeding and I notice no difference in his demeanor or actions and nothing which would indicate pain.

This pore had been growing and starting to extend out of his leg over the last few months. The surface of the plug is 10 mm in diameter and was extending beyond the surface of his skin by 1 to 2 mm for the last few days.

Frankly I've never read anything on this type of occurrence and don't really know what to do. My vet is in St Louis which is only 200 miles from here and I will be going over on Wednesday or Thursday but I have to run to Cincinnati, 300 miles the other way, on Tuesday for an interview. Would this be something requiring vet attention? If so can I wait to see my regular and well versed vet? There are vets locally but none I know of with reptile experience nor do I have background with any of the locals.

I will cross post this on AIML if I can remember how to access my yahoo account.

Mark I would just keep the area clean and maybe a little neosporin or something similar on it...and it should be fine. I have heard of some larger male pores dislodging before.....just keep an eye for infection .....good luck.

In our constant battles for dominance Dizzy has lost mulitple pore plugs. His are considerably smaller than Bobs though.
Only one has bled and it only did so for a short time and them left the 'gaping hole' that you speak of. I didn't seek vet attention. I just cleaned it up and made sure it stayed that way and the plugs have since began to grow back.

Same with Zair...he's lost one or two himself. Just watching it and keeping his living quarters a little extra clean will be ok.

Ditto everyone else.

Nothing scary, just a sign of old age. LOL

So should I expect him to be kicking the bucket soon or should I drive down to the Atlantic coast and beat that old man, Dom, with his own cane?

I just added another 300 miles to my driving over the next 7 days, 1300 total, so what is another few states worth of driving? Living here in southern Indiana is kinda nice, being centrally located. Only problem is this city, well the river, stinks.

Anyway good to hear as money is getting tight, I need a job.
