Less poop more pee??

Hi. My ig seems healthy, active, eats lots and well in general. But what concerns me is that the past week it seems to not be defacating as it does before.

For a while, it was defacating as soon as it woke up. A huge amount of both poop and pee. Everyday same time without fail. Then one day, it didn't poop in the morning, and didn't eat all day. It then pooped at night and ate normal the next day, but then again didn't poop again until night. There seemed a little less poop than usual but by and large it was still normal. It would do this occasionally, and sometimes not poop at night, and have me all worried and everything, but I have learnt that had I not pushed the post button on here, the next morning it would poop a huge load anyway to my relief.

When it poops, I always see it's stomach contracting to push the poop out.

Today, it pooped in the afternoon. It hadn't pooped in the pooping spot I carry it to for a week or two as it did so in the morning before I got to it, and today I carried it down and it pooped there on the newspaper. It let out a HUGE amount of pee as normal, then it sat there. Legs wide apart, not moving for a few minutes. Normally, it would pee and poop all within like 10 seconds all at once and leave, but it sat there this time. I thought it may have been impacted, but when I lifted it from the newspaper I see it HAS pooped some. However, it was a lot less than usual. To the point that warrants concern. While it was sitting there, it WASN'T straining to poop or anything, just looking around, so it may have just been lazy to leave right away. I don't know. But the amount of pee to poop was completely not normal. I don't know if there is something wrong and it just peed but couldn't poop everything out.

Is this to be of concern? I'll probably find out tommorow morning or tonight that there is nothing to be concerned about, but you never know. Because on average, the amount of poop has been less daily than before (but still normal) and has been like this for a few days, until today when it is even less.

You've already stated your ig has not been eating well at one point. Keep in mind, if the eating is off and less frequent, so will the poop. It sounds like your ig is well hydrated. One thing you can do is take a fresh sample of poop to ANY vet since all that needs to be done is a fecal float that will look for parasites. The poop should be no more than 4 hours old, if I remember right. This can usually be done as a walk-in since there is no exam to make a room available for. If you get charged more than $15...you're getting robbed.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi, may I ask is the eating not well at one point a reference to the fact that it will affect the amount of poop? Or an indication it has parasites?

Exactly right. You can't have anything coming out if nothing goes in...so the less there is going in...the less there is coming out.

Hello,

I may have read his question wrong, but I think he is asking if the iguanas "past" eating problems would effect his "current" state of feces to urates ratio.

If his ig has been eating regularly for more than a week, he would be defectaing regularly as well.

I would suggest a few warm baths to go with the fecal float. Like humans, he could just be experiencing an abnormal routine in his bowel movements. The fecal will eliminate any chances of parasites and the warm baths may help him "relax" and release, so to speak. (Pending there is actually anything in his cavity that needs releasing in the first place.)

I may have mis-read the question. It's only very recent past that will effect the current state, as Rich said. If your asking about eating problems from several months ago, this won't have any bearing on how much he goes now.
