Are there any ways to keep food moist when not in a plate or bowl? Or are there anything that can be used as a plate that is not raised?
The food stays pretty moist in my plate because I put water on the bottom and the food on top of it. However, as you know, my ig isn't eating at all these few days. Just now, I took one leaf out of the bowl and dropped it in front of its nose, on the floor. And it ate it. Then another piece and it disappeared after a little while while I was away. It seems that my ig doesn't like to eat from the bowl or something???? Prefers food on the floor? Any type of "Flat thing" that I can use to keep water in the food? I suppose that may be stupid because heck if it was flat the water would run off, duh. But I don't know what else to try. By the way the plate I was using which it did eat from before, was metal. It was meant to be an ashtray. Could the metal have like corroded and letting off fumes? It doesn't look any different and no rust. Do those garlic sprays work? I see them at the pet shop supposed to stimulate appetite. |

You could try a paper plate and mist the veggies throughout the day.

You said the original dish is metal... perhaps he's seeing his reflection and feeling threatened. Even a vague outline of another iguana could be enough to make him uneasy. I like Marsha's idea of a paper plate. For Gil, I use pyrex (glass) pie plates; but they're on the floor of his enclosure.

Maybe the plastic lid from a tub of butter, nargerine, sour cream, or something of the like, it has very low sides but would hold in some water.

I would get rid of the metal dish for the above mentioned reasons and because it might leach some metals into the food (causing it to taste different, and or cause some the metals to get into the food (zinc etc) which could end up being a toxicity risk. Use glass, plastic or paper dishes to serve his food.
Some igs do like being hand fed. My Napoleon prefered to be hand fed over eating out of his dish. how are you serving the food? Is it finely chopped or in larger pieces? If it's too big that might cause him not to eat it as well.

I go with Lacey on this one. I have used margarine lids for neonates that have been intimidated by both bowls and even plates.
