My ig pooped today and the urates are not all white like they were before. It had a slightly yellowish, orange tinge of color to it. Is this a problem?
By the way from looking at it it seems that it is the liquid part that is orange and thus on top of the white or perhaps the white is tinged itself but I am not sure. |

What problem? What do I Do? Help please....
I may add that the appetite has decreased somewhat in the last few days, or so I think from the amount of food left. But that could simply be because I overzealously made more food, because it still poops a ton a day so it must have eaten. |

I'd keep an eye on something like that, if it continues you should probably call a vet.

Just some idea's for you to think about:
What are you feeding him? Sometimes foods with a lot of orange in them can make the urates orangish. Dehydration can also cause the urates to become discoloured. Are the urates smooth or are they firm, even crystalized? Parasite infections can also cause urates to take on an orange or even pinkish tinge. Re-check your cage temps. Didn't you turn them up recently because your ig wasn't eating well (or am I thinking of someone else?). If the cage is now too hot the iguana might be dehydrating ... so make sure the cage temps are in the correct range. Also, it can't hurt to make his food extra moist in order to get more fluids into him. (dehydration can also cause a decreased appetite) If I'm not mistaken didn't you also post the other day about noticing that the femoral pores had enlarged and you were wondering if your iguana was male? If the iguana is male and his hormones are kicking in, perhaps that is why the urates are discoloured. Some owners notice that their igs urates take on an orangish tinge when they are in breeding season.

He gets lots of orange colored foods, but he has gotten them every day since day one so I doubt it is that. These include pumpkin, squash and papaya.
The urates are soft and he releases a LOT of liquid along with it. There were no crystals in it while wet. However, I took it out to analyse and after it was dried after a few hours, I could see crystals in it after I move it around in the light. His temps according to the thermometers are normal at the hottest and coldest extremes. But it may be different in other spots there is no way to tell. The basking bulb of 150 watts (rep-pro) burnt out so I switched to a 100 watt household bulb which was handy and I figured it would be appropriate anyway because the weather is warming. UVB bulbs have not changed. He has free access to drinking water both in terms of a tub and a water bowl, but I have only seen him really drink from it twice in the two months its been here. Yes it seems his femoral pores have gotten bigger but I am still not sure because I have yet to get a response for that post. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ok great now my darn ig won't eat anything. Not a bite. I deliberately didn't feed him in the morning to see if by evening he'd be hungry and eat today but he won't even LOOK at the food. |

Hmmm...my female was poopin' some orange tinted urates a couple weeks ago. Just started out of nowhere, happened for 3 days then went back to normal. I started worrying at first that she might be dehydrated again, like when she was gravid and I had to squirt water into her mouth. So I made sure her food was misted so much that the greens were almost floating, lol. Then on the forth day, when I figured if she did it again, she was going to the vet, she pooped normal again. And has since. So I don't know if it was a coincidence or if she was dehydrated again, but it did clear up and hasn't returned.

Kira, you are the second person who has told me today that their igs got orange urates for three days, exactly three days. Perhaps this is some sort of bio pattern that we don't know about? I don't know....
It's not eating much at all all of a sudden. |

Anthony can you post a picture of the underside of the igs thighs showing the pores?
The fact that the eating has slowed down may be the problem. Igs get most of their water from the food they eat. In fact my female has never drank from a bowl! The reduced food intake will result in less water being ingested.

Yes Merlin, that was my girl's problem. She had reduced her feeding, well actually quit while gravid, and is eating more again now. But she's still not eating as much as she was, it's taking her a bit to put her belly back on. But when she doesn't eat, she gets no water. Both mine refuse to drink from a bowl. They just knock it over and spill it. I eventually stopped having a bowl in there, and now just drown their salad in water, lol.
