Iguana Help, While waiting for Vet to call
Hi everyone,
while Im waiting for the Vet to call me about my Iguana "Iggie",the BEST place to be is here, posting my concerns, otherwise I may go bonkers! Late yesterday(Sat) Iggie, my 4yr female Iguana, started acting like she was gonna bite me, by this I mean, opened her mouth way big ,and hissed,or was trying to choke. This happened 4-5 times in approx. 10-15min. Right after that she did this major shake thing like the shivers. She had gone poop about 2hrs prior to this, and it appeared normal, I did take her out in the yard for bout 15 min. She didnt eat anything, basically was acting her normal self prior to this incident. She went under the blankets on my bed and went to sleep. Couple hours later, she started wheezing, kinda like she had a cold and sore throat She actually woke me up a couple times during the nite with this. We woke up bout 1/2 hr ago, she did the open mouth thing again, and is still wheezing, it reminds me of when you get a cold with sore throat and plugged up nose. Im sorry for this being so long, Im just worried Any info you may have or words of encouragement would greatly be appreciated!

natalie, i hope everything goes well. Any chance that she likes to bite the covers or **** on the sheets? B/c if she does, it may be a string or some cotton that is stuck in her throat, my dog does the same thing and gets stuff in there all the time.
Good luck,

Hi Natalie,
When she opened her mouth wide, could you see anything in there? I had an Ig many years ago that got into an ashtray. He was doing the same thing as yours. The vet was able to get 3 butts out of his throat. Good luck and I hope Iggie will be fine. |

Sounds to me like she may have some type of upper respiratory thing going there....a vet visit is the best thing to do for her...good luck...and let us know what happens....Lyn

If you think it is an upper respiratory infection make sure that you keep her really warm, that should help (it's kind of like when your body gets a fever to fight off an infection). Good Luck!

Two things come to mind...something caught...or Upper respiritory infection.
You're right to go to the vet. I sure would like to hear how the visit goes!

Thanks all,
Well the good news is she seems a little better, the bad news is there is NOT a vet remotely near me that is qualified in reptiles!! So Ive left a v/m with Iggies vet here in Los Osos to call me ASAP which is Mon. A.M. I now have to go to work till 9:30 CA. time and I DO NOT want to go;however, my mom and daughter will be checking on her and sitting with her throught the day. I only work 5min from home so I can get home quickly if needed. Our vet lives as close, but will only show up at her house as a last resort! Will keep you updated Much thanks Nat
