Do iggys drink water and need water present at all times like cat or dog or any other kind of pet? It's always a question I've wondered. I always moisten his food and spray his cage every morning for humidity, but is it necessary for a water bowl?

I always recommend one. They may drink out of it when thirsty, it can provide added humidity, and it also gives them something to soak in if it's large enough. Green iguanas spend a lot of time near or above water in the wild and are excellent swimmers. The way I see it, there are more reasons to have a water bowl than not have one, so that's why I recommend them.

When he was smaller I used to have a nice low bowl with water, but now he's gotten a lot bigger, and I had to increase the size of his food bowl which doesn't allow me to have a nice pool for him since my cage is tall and not very wide, space is limited on the ground. So I was wondering whether it was a necessity.

My ig drinks from his sometimes, but more often than not he uses it as a pillow I have it under his heat lamp, so when he sleeps on the edge of it he is breathing in the evaporations

Sounds like you may need a new cage.

While iguanas do not tend to actively drink from the water bowl, they don't really ignore it either.

As Matt indicated, there are many reasons to have it present and fresh each day. And no real good reasons to remove it. ;-)
