Iguana Bloating

Need some help guys and gals. My 4 year old female iguana has been getting bloated and a bit of constipation. She only POOPS when when I soak her, this has been going on for about 2 weeks. This started as soon as I put her in her new cage. She was fine before... What's going on? Please help!

Re: Iguana Bloating

I think before we can even think about trying to help, you are going to have to give us more information. What kind of tank setup do you have now? Size? Temp? Substrate? UVB? Humidity? and what kind of diet are you feeding her?

Your best bet might be a visit to a REPTILE vet.
If you don't know one you can check out these links to find one in your area. Reptile Forums - The HC Network - Reptile Vet Locator

Re: Iguana Bloating

Well her new cage is a screen enclosure 6ft high 4ft wide and 3ft deep. UVB light, infrared heat source, basking spot at 90-95, humidity at 75. Her diet is mostly Romaine lettuce dusted with either calcium + D3 or multi vitamins.

Re: Iguana Bloating

Romaine isn't great food, you should get collard greens or turnip greens as the main diet.... with the right diet they shouldn't need calcium or d3 or multi vitamins.

A bit of canned pumpkin in with the food each day will help the constipation. Bonus: they love it.

Re: Iguana Bloating

Kendalle is right, the Romaine isn't providing any nutritional value for your ig at all. Check out the care sheets for igs, Green Iguana Care Guide (Iguana iguana) - Reptile Information - Caresheets Database. Here is the link to the diet section, Iguana Diet - Reptile Information - Caresheets Database. And the Vitamin & mineral section, Vitamin & Mineral Supplementation - Reptile Information - Caresheets Database.

I personally would suggest using the calcium and D3, you really don't want to fool around with Metabolic Bone Disease...

Re: Iguana Bloating

I found in most books and web pages that I have read as well as my vet said that if you have the correct lighting and food you don't need the supplements plus if you have the supplements and not the lights and heat your iguana won't absorb them anyway.

Re: Iguana Bloating

It's healthier yea, but canned I guess is better for constipation. I forget why, but that's what my vet said.
