Have any of you heard of using a dog kennel for a indoor cage for an iguana? I found a small kennel 4x4x6 tall dog kennel that is actually a reasonable price quite cheaper than any I could build

I would use coroplast for the floor and cage material for the top, I may add plastic to the walls to keep it a little more humid but it is always humid here and I would have a humidifier in his room again this year. I like that it is an open cage that I can set up with shelves and ropes and things anyway I want and change them every so often. Also it has a door I fit in so I can invade his territory and make him less evil to get out. I don't know if he needs that big of a cage YET I can make it 2x4x6 until it needs yet again an upgrade.

He actually likes change from what I can tell he doesn't stress about it and likes exploring new things.

The only think I would worry about, is him squeezing through the bars and getting out. you may have to reinforce it with hardware cloth. As long as the ROOM temp and humidity is correct, I don't see why it wouldn't work. It would make a great outdoor enclosure too, if you were in florida or somewhere (not sure where you are)

Yeah the main problem with open air cages like that is maintaining heat and humidity, if you are willing to keep the whole room warm and humid it's okay to use, but I'd look at one in person and measure the size of the gaps to make sure he couldn't stick his head through and get stuck at the neck or something.

My boyfriend made the cage my 2 Water Dragons live in out of window screan(easy to take apart)...so to keep the humidity in I attached that window plastic that people use in the winter. Works great and I can see through perfect.

Yea I need to find one in person, but they never have them set up. It sucks. They don't carry them at my petsmart. The one I found is over 2 hours away blah...

I live in Iowa so I can't have him outside much, but I will be able to keep his old cage in the garage and wheel it out and put him out there every once and a while when I'm outside and it's nice and hot and yada. But he can't be out alone, I would worry too much about him.

That's quite a kennel. I think it would work fine with some alterations... mostly those that have already been mentioned.

Maybe the Petcos can cooperate and deliver it to the store closest to you.

well this cage is driving me BUGGY

we went to 5 petstores looking for kennels on our trip out of state and found one at petsmart but they were just like oh no we can't open it for you and we don't have one set up. .... wish I could help... but.. i can't I guess you would have to try it.

then we went to a mills fleet farm and they had one set up and it was nice, the holes are a little too big like 2 inchs by 4 or something like that I can fit my hand in but not when its in a fist which is what his gut is but not his head and shoulders

but we found some plastic mesh stuff, it was by the plastic chickenwire which is what he has on his cage now from when he was itty bitty, and snowfence however I don't think it was either of that but it was cheep and black and looked like it would work.

but it didn't fit in the car that we had because his seats don't fold down.

so I was like ok it has free shipping at petsmart online and we will just order it and get the cover stuff later.... no, turns out that petsmart has free shipping on stuff that is $50-150 and nothing big or heavy. GREAT THANKS FOR TELLING ME THAT BEFORE it didn't say until we clicked the ready to check out button.

so I call the store and see if they will order it and we will buy it from them when they get it. no we don't do that, you'd have to find it elsewhere or buy online. thanks for the help and wonderful service.

so this weekend I am staying at my parents when house sitting for our 2 cats and 2 dogs and sheep and there is a mills fleet farm 45 mins away that we will go to.

I have been looking for deals on ebay, criagslist, amazon and google shopping for weeks now, and last night I had a dream that I got the cage and was braiding an endless rope for his climby thing in his cage. ahhhhhhhh

I used one temporarily, until I was able to get my iguana into a new cage. It was about that size, a large coated wire thing. He loved it. Climbed all over the place all the time. I still use it when I take him outdoors.

But during that time, humidity levels were awful, and temperature was really, really hard to keep correct. If you got one and you were able to enclose it somehow, it might work pretty well. Or if you live some place naturally warm and humid, like Florida.

Well its not naturally humid or warm here in Iowa, but he has always been in an open air inclosure and works pretty well, plus he lives in his own room where I can have it hotter and more humid than the rest of the house. We can't just set up the room for him like some have.

I have figured out how to regulate his heat and humiddity pretty well in the cage he has now, and this would just be an upgrade, I will have to buy another heat lamp and another uvb light I think, but it will be good for him.
