Because these are only temporary holding conditions they are only required very minimum basics or food, water and vet care if sick. It doesn't state that the food be the best of the best. Maybe the owner doesn't know this, but I would bet he probably does.

I didn't know care sheets were required for CA pet stores though! Let's hope other states follow suit soon.
Sneaky little thing, aren't I??? Most people at least take pause when getting a letter from a lawyer.

I've thought a lot about the fact that pet stores feed lettuce... and because they're temporary holding places, it's probably not a big deal, BUT they need to give proper advice to customers instead of passing on their bad habits.

What I don't get with stores feeding romaine lettuce, is that its more expensive than collard greens!

Re: Can I Vent Too?

Any updates? Have you talked to them yet?

My local petstore is HORRIBLE with iguanas they tell people for one that they have marine iguanas... and they have like 30 in a really small cage, and really not that many people like iggs around here so I know they aren't selling that many.... stupid petstores.

Gosh and here all along I was under the impression that marine iguanas were a highly protected species and illegal for the run of the mill person to have!!
Maybe you should call your state wildlife Department and let them in on it!

Re: Can I Vent Too?

Sorry guys for being MIA.
Work has been busy and the family drama never stops.

I waited one week to cool down. It was really bad--like imagining-all-the-ways-I-could have-slapped-her-bad. Then I talked to my mom for advice. She calmed me down and also gave tips on how to make him more receptive.

And then I spoke with the owner---who has always been so professional and helpful.
He seemed to genuinely care. He asked in detail about how I was treated. Then he patiently listened to my explanation about iguana nutrition (at that point--it was really hard to control my emotions, but I held it together.)
In the end, he told me that he had no idea this happened, and repeatedly thanked me for telling him. He assured me that he would talk to those girls and said he would be willing to do anything to make this right with me.

Enter the caresheets.

Overall, what started as a horrible encounter became a positive experience.
I want to thank you all for listening, and then giving me the encouragement and support
to do something about it.

Cheers!

Yea, i know, they don't actually sell them and they don't have a sign that says they do, it was just on the phone

They just kill a lot a lot a lot of animals I think. All of them look sick, I don't know why they aren't shut down yet. I have talked to my humane society who is also animal control and they say, "yea I know we have tried." Whatever that means. Anyway....

Glad things were better with the owner.
